November 2013

I’m entering the Gorrick Brass Monkey series this year… for the record, these are cross-country mountain bike races, albeit amateur in status, held around the Farnborough area on army land. It’s an area I know well from my youth… and I’ve entered the first of the 4-hour races (rather than the 1 or 2 hour events)… so I need to do some training. The first Brass Monkey event is at the end of the month, so early November is the point at which I want to pull my training together and make sure that I can actually complete a 4-hour XC event.

The training sessions are as follows:

18th Nov – gym session, spin bike and weights. 1 hour and 7 minutes. 664 calories.

16th Nov – road ride to Bath and back, 47.7 miles. 4 hours and 47 minutes (ride time, not including the cafe and Cadence cycles – 3 hours and 41 minutes). 3054 calories. 11th Nov – gym session, spin bike and weights. 54 minutes. 530 calories.

9th Nov – xc ride around Malmesbury, 26 miles. 2 hours and 43 minutes (ride time 2 hours and 18 mins). 1957 calories.

7th Nov – gym session, spin bike and weights. 50 minutes. 538 calories.

6th Nov – gym session, spin bike and weights. 1 hour and 4 minutes. 600 calories.

5th Nov – Ride around Bath Two Tunnels with Louis and Charlie, 14.3 miles. Ride time 1 hour and 59 minutes.

Note that I record my heart rate and calories burned (in the gym and out on my bike) with a Polar bluetooth heart rate monitor that’s linked to my iPhone, and I track all of my rides with Strava (also on the iPhone).
